Amazingly, none of us knew where the chili crab is. We practically walked from kallang MRT to Aljunied. Not along the MRT line, but within Geylang itself. It was quite an adventure. This is the first time I ventured into Geylang. And how right it is. Previously intended geylang-turn ugly trip was also because we took the wrong turn, solely due to my timidity to walk through the dark Lorongs of the red-light-district. The actual geylang is sort of a fusion of Malaysia - Thailand - Singapore; in quite a messy way. And one thing's for sure. There are many MEN in geylang. It's just eerie.
We ended up eating chili crab at a high class restaurant - No Signboard Restaurant. Their service was fantastic. One of the best I've received in Singapore. Food wise, above average but the price is well above average as well. I think I can find a better chili crab else where.

Came back that night, had diarrhea-like feeling, though my stools are pretty formed.

The next day, the throat got itchy. Tummy ache got better. To add on to the damage, I went to have Mac Spicy for dinner, even though my brain was screaming out loud to me that it will kill the throat. I started my dose of Danzen.

By thurs, throat is not well. Scratchy with mild pain. Took 2nd dose of Danzen. It's under control. Anyway I couldn't yield, maiden ACC-solo clinic starts at 2pm; and I couldn't afford to screw up and to disappoint Mother. Thank God ACC was a smooth sail, but reaching the last few patients, I remember telling the PSA I'm falling sick soon. Drank a lot of water; but it's not doing much good. That day, 3 patients came in complaining of sore throat. I told them, the weather is bad nowadays. Didn't want to tell them I'm falling sick myself too.

Right after ACC, I didn't want to go back to R1; maybe it's due to malaise or laziness. But I think it's the malaise. I went back, quietly sat down to dispense; made a few light smiles to those who welcome me back. But as I was dispensing, fingers started to grow cold and eventually the whole hand was chilled. I didn't feel well. By 558pm, 2 min before I'm supposed to knock off, borrowed KX's thermometer. It started from 34.5 -> 35.9 -> 36.5 -> 37 -> 37.1-------> 37.5! And finally it stopped!! My heart was pumping hard. But at least then I knew that I had fever.
I took me 5 minutes before I've decided to put on a mask. Showed Mr Yong the reading, he gave a very diplomatic answer. "Em, how are you feeling? Go home monitor ok? If still fever, it's good to see a doctor". And I guess I should get an MC and don't come to work if I'm sick.

Had claypot rice for dinner. Amazingly felt better after that. Maybe the nutrients re-charged my immunity. Felt sucky on the way back home though. Re-check temp at home - 37.6. On a different thermometer. Lazed around the whole night and watched some tv.

Happily went to sleep. Thinking that most likely I may have a day off tomorrow.

Woke up this morning. First time is to pop in the thermometer - even before brushing my teeth. It flew up fast, but plateuring at 37.1. Disappointed. Figuring out an excuse to skip work. But eventually gave way to the Right Thing. Dressed up nicely andwent for work. Mood was much better today. Probably I've fared through a fever. Jessica noticed the change as well. It was a good day.

Mr and Mrs Liang

Finally started the University of Southern Indiana ACC course. It started off quite fun. With introductions posted. Mostly are nurses and pharmacists, and I think all of them are from America, except Su ching and me. Some are very experienced, with 20 years of practice. Woah...
It's just thrilling to be learning all people from other places, although as usual, I'll be quite quiet and don't contribute much to discussion board. At least I wrote a decent introduction of myself.

The course will last for 6 week. And every Monday will be deadline day, with a final exam at the end of the course. Really hope this course will improve my knowledge and make me a more competent ACC pharmacist like Mother.
______________________________

Fiona's Wedding was held yesterday - 30th May 2009 at Raffles Hotel.
Apparently it is also the day when she met Liang - her husband now.
The solemnisation ceremony was held at the lawn. It was beautiful. Fiona looked gorgeous, the bright red roses were just romantic and the whole setting was perfect... except the weather, which was hot and humid.

Fortunately for the Liangs, it only started drizzling after the whole ceremony and after eveyone had their chance of taking photo with the bride.
The wedding dinner was held exactly the same place as Julian's wedding a year ago. However, the feeling I had was utterly different. This is Fiona's wedding - one of the closest friend I had in SAJC; and now I was seated with the 61 people, some in whom I did not meet for years.
What's more fascinating was that the couple read out their personally written vow to each other and I was very touched by what Liang wrote - almost teared...

And the wedding dinner that I dream of was just displayed right in front of me. They did a rumba together, and with the gracefulness of Fiona and the hardwork Liang put in (10 lessons in 10 weeks, when they had only 3 months to prepare for the wedding), the dance was aweful!
Last but not least, right after the rumba, they opened up the dance floor. It was just beautiful. I was drooling staring at the dance floor - it started off with the newly-weds dancing, then more couples, young and old swayed in with the melody. It was a very pretty sight. Reminded me slighly of So Close. but this is afterall an Asian country, after the first song was over, people went back to their seats. Too bad Hann wasn't there.

To be honest, the wedding definitely made me feel like having one of my own soon. At the same place - the Lawn, but maybe with some good outdoor air-condition. and one thing's for sure, dance floor is a must.

Happy trip

it's weird now to blog about Australia when we were back since 11th of April. but still the wonderful times we had there it should be documented. at least in a concise manner.

1st - 5th April :<img style="margin: 0pt 10px 10px 0pt; Shall focus on the good things that came out of it.
a. I have grown. socially and mentally. in handling all sorts of people. in handling a bad situation. I still do get tacky cases now and then. but i'm definitely better now.
b. I've known a group of wonderful people. we had became best of friends. mostly through complaining and bitching about others. well naturally. but one thing to emphasize. the thing i cherish most is the support; the understanding and the sincerity. hope we will be fantastic colleagues together now.

Now.... I'm starting new as a pharmacist. this is a late blog. officially i am a pharmacist since the 23rd of march. but i was not excited nor happy then. i just felt weird that now i'm in the team. and i have no one to fall back on. phone calls it's all alone. checking is up to u. and oh well, nothing much really change. just that now you're expected to act like a professional. overnight.
and never can i say the sentence." I am just a pre-reg"

now i'm happy... my pay had a real boost. and with this i can see the world. i can have more freedom. indeed money can't get everything. cliche. but now i have time to invite friends for tea. it's wonderful. friends for thai dinner. lovely. and 404 coming back to the west. reunited. for a drink.

just a sad thing to blog about today. Hann started HOship and by third day he is tired like mad and snoring away the minute he laid down. my heart aches for that. got scolding as well. reminds me a bit of pre-reg but i got a feeling his is much worse. now i know. don't anyhow call doctors. esp HOs. their life is tough. and shitty.
hope he will grow stronger from this and draw strength from the Holy Spirit. may God grant him wisdom.

Back for good

I'm no longer a pre-reg. Around 700 altogether. With only 7 days left, that makes it 100 pages a day. To study for 10 hours (if that's even feasible), will be about 10 pages per hour, 10 hours a day for the next 7 days.
................................................let's pray for a miracle.

Today's run was substituted with a swim, thanks to the awful weather and a slight haze hanging around the air. The temperature seemed to have rose quite a bit for the past 3 days, wave goodbye to the days when the fan is left un-on. The "drought" is slowing creeping in, and I don't like it at all.

Valentine's day has just passed and it would do no justice to my blog if I don't mention a bit about it.
This is the first Valentine's Day that I've actually did some planning. Both of us weren't in the mood. MBBS at the corner for him, and as for me, it's blah blah blah, I don't even want to talk about it. But after giving in some thoughts and had a pretty boring V-day eve, I've decided to put in some initiative and effort. I guess we can take turns. Since he will be out the whole day for MBBS revision lecture, I've decided to go Vivo to shop for a good V-day present and maybe a V-day lovey cake. A Parker pen has always been on my mind, and since he'll be a real doctor soon, maybe a nice little Parker pen will be good. And if they carved his name on it, that'll be even better! Maybe if he is to lost it, some good person will pass it back to him.
So, a Parker pen was bought. A real one, made in France. Apparently they have cheaper ones, just that it's made in China, and from my 5min evaluation, it's definitely heavier than the French-made one. And after the Parker (that only took me 10 min), decided to pop by Baker's Inn and get a lovely white Valentine cake to spice up the day. And within 30min, I'm out of Vivo and on my way back.
To keep it short, he was pretty surprised by how "dua zhong" I've made the day. That's not usually my practice, but surprises are good. And we headed out for dinner - a cheap 5 dollar beef noodle at Kopitiam. We have made a vow not to have anymore expensive meals from now till Australia, that will be for about 1.5 months. So any cheap food with decent taste will do us good.

Board exams on the 23rd. Taking Monday and Friday off. Finally I can get some rest, and some work done, I hope.

Some updates

I know, it has been a long time. Partly because I'm living with a person in whom I can freely share all my thoughts and a day's work with, making it unnecessary to repeat most of it here.

However, I've decided to blog about some small matters here.
I've finally updated my BNF from version 52 to 56. Green apple color. Thanks to Champ! Without me going to choicetext myself, I have saved at least $2. Now I have no other excuses to fail the board exams. With the brand new dazzling looking book, hopefully I will renew my passion for mugging.

I just boiled ABC soup yesterday. Most of these happy moments are gatherings with friends and buddies.

But sad to say, I'd more incline to blogging when there are unhappy moments, like today.

Today is my worst day at work. Everything screws up! It's a downward spiral. I cried a full bucket of tears, separated in 3 instances.
I may be reading things too deep. Maybe so, maybe not.

The greatest encouragement comes from Serene, on the day before my worst day (to date). Romans 5: 3-5
"And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, character; and character, hope. 5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

peri-pre-reg emotions

Yesterday was the first time I ever contemplated quitting the profession. I guess it has been a lousy day. As what thunder said, it is always multi-factorial.
Work is vastly different from school. And if I tend to compare it with school, he/she is bound for depression.
For now, I just hope to adjust mentally to this new phase of life, to embrace it, rather than to run away from it. Bad days are a norm, just hope that the next day will be a better day.

Today is a much better day definitely. Not a very eventful day, but it's definitely a better day.
Nonetheless, it was relatively more emotional one, as it's my last day at R1, which supposed to be one of the best place in NUH.
Now as I'm continuing my journey, just hope that other places will be better.

I can dance, I can jive

I used to hate Mama-Mia so much as I feel their songs are just passe and oldies. However, gradually as I grew "older and more matured", I start to like their song. Every pieces of them!
I have been listening to some of their famous songs all these while - Thank you for the music, dancing queen, Mama-Mia, Winner takes it all, I have a dream..., even though I have never watch the broadway or read about the synopsis.
So when I went to watch the latest Mama-Mia movie yesterday, I have no idea what I'm going to get except for some great Mama-Mia songs.

It started out rather peculiar, it's always like that for me for a musical-based. You're just not used to people started singing half-way talking in the cinema, rather different as compared to a Braodway. It got rather funny in the middle when the characters started rolling in. The part when the girls re-united reminded me of Stef and Lily. That was like 8 years ago, when we were really 16 going to 17!
Overall, it was a fun show, though some may get rather disappointed if you are to compare to real Broadway. It's just different. The place where they made the show was fantastic, apparently is somewhere in Greece! (see! I really really want to go Greece!!!)
The show would be somewhat a success if Pierce Brosnan is to sing much much less. He really cannot sing (everytime before he starts singing, I'll breathe in a deep breath to prevent myself from laughing, it almost reminded me of the Phantom in the last movie of Phantom of the Opera).

Weekends are good, especially after working for 13 days non-stop... even though the pile of work is just decreasing in an intolerable pace, you get to sleep just slightly more and not to be in the hospital.

Listening to the sound track now just make me feel like dancing.... Indeed I can dance and I can jive, just want to have a time of my life!

Birdie has stopped running for some time.
Birdie feels that at times she's gasping for air and ..... time.

Birdie wants to take leave.

Malaysia my home

My second trip back to Malaysia in a period of 2 weeks time. All these traveling are meant for a purpose - changes I've made to counter my attitude of laziness and selfishness.

The first trip was for mom's parotid lump resection. The trip was an awesome one. Apart from family reunion with dad, mom, sis, grandma and aunts, it was also a time of rest. I slept so much that mom started screaming this," Am I the sick one or you're the one who is sick?"!!! LOL
I've actually slept throughout the first day of my arrival, periodically on the special couch that my sis said to have been cursed by the slumber spell. But thank God for the rest, the word re-charge can really be used on the follow week where work was resumed.
Praise to God especially for mom's speedy recovery and the clear biopsy. It turned out that the lump is solely inflammation based, nothing to do with cell hyperplasia.

The second trip was to Penang, to visit Hwachin. Hann could make it along, thus visited Aunty Yong and Uncle as well. It was a pity that the trip was so short. I only managed to eat Char Kuey Tiao, Ice Kacang, Cendol and Nasi Lemak (it was fantastic). Penang is definitely a pleasant island, with fast-pace modernisation. Just that the roads are a little tiny and thus congested at times.
I have also finally visited Hollywood Tailor which is owned by HC's dad. It is a big house! HC has slimmed down quite a bit and looked not as energetic as before. However, I still can see the hope and shine through her eyes. My dearest friend, you will always be in my prayer and I know that you will be strong to win this battle!!!

Malaysia will always be my home, where my family are and where I can truly find rest and refuge.

pre-reg (life)

In the (life) of a pre-reg, work is just like a water-fall, depending on how you perceived it. I'm truly truly an adult, no turning back!

This birthday has been quite a special one I should say. It's like a new beginning, a new phase...

The surprise came on 30th evening 5.50pm, when I was doing the Exforge review at high momentum. I saw the pre-reggers shuffling into office, and I was like actually quite apathetic, all I want is just to get the work done. After I turned my head back to the screen, "Happy Birthday to you... Happy birthday to you..." Then I got really stunned and seriously I was slightly speechless at that moment. And not to mention, blushing is the normal routine.
The pre-reggers brought in a cake and the early celebration really turned out to be a pleasant surprise!

That evening, I've decided to walk home from UCC. The day that I've decided to walk back, the traffic is just so smooth. Can you imagine, you can stuck in a road less than 500m for 25 minutes when normally only require 1 minutes to drive past. Tsk tsk tsk...
Anyway, back to more surprises!
When I reached home, dinner was prepared for me! Apparently John and JK came along too and we had a mini birthday celebration in the comfort of our home.
The mudcake prepared by Grace was absolutely delicious, and seriously I was really touched.

The actual day itself was just wonderful - messages were flooding in throughout the day, love messages just keep you going no matter how stressful work can be!
*So do send your friends some love notes during work, and that will really boost them up!

24th Birthday seemed to serve as a kick-start to a new beginning... And I hope that it's going to be an exciting and meaningful journey up next!
Thanks to everyone who had made this day truly special to me.

Birdie runs

Running has been resumed and currently seems like it's a 2.5 k route. The story is a little far fetch I should say. How can there be so many heroes aka "mutants with special powers" in the world?
Nevertheless, heroes has been enjoyable indeed...

Today's PSS CE is at IMH and I've finally get to know how Yinshan feels every day traveling from Serangoon to NUH. My journey from Clementi to Sengkang has been insanely long! It's more than 1 hours solely traveling time, with 2 bus transits and switching from green line to purple line!
Never, never I'll stay so near from my workplace! Never!

Pharmacy DND is finally here. I wasn't really keen about DND, partly pre-reg has really taken a toll on my life, and all I want are free weekends when I can take afternoon naps and do things that I don't get to do on weekdays. However, I've decided that since I've pay for DND and I'm sure to go, I shall build up some excitement for it. Anyway, the venue at upper club CHIJMS just make it more appealing as compared to some conventional hotels.
Overall it has been a cozy night with all the Pharmers. The highlight is definitely the "sa-bor" for pageant, and thanks to Li wei's enthusiasm in the balloon game, we got to dance (yes, I've got my wish of dancing in a DND) - just the two of us- in front of everyone, bollywood songs and some titanic theme song. And our tools- toilet brush and floor cleaner, has been really entertaining to the crowd.
Well, I was actually glad that the night hasn't been what I've expected and I've really had fun!

Stars gazing

I've decided to listen to some songs tonight and realized how music can heal one's soul.

And I come to listen to this song 我可以陪你去看星星。。。 then suddenly I missed 404 girls very much....
I miss our crazy house, the room KTV sessions and the Bailey and Vodka parties!

Sob........ there will be no stars here in Singapore....

To err is human

I first come to know the term to err is human during pharmacotherapy lessons back in year 3. Initially I have no idea what is this about. Is there a spelling error? How to pronounce the err word? eel? Ee? er???
Then later I've learnt that what it means is that everyone makes mistakes, no one is perfect. And it's closely link to our profession which is highly proned to medication errors. Med error is a very broad term which includes strength error, dose error, route error, patient error, disease error, the long list continues.

However, the whole purpose of this post is not to talk about Med error...
The phrase to err is human does not stand alone. It is not finished.
The complete one is actually
To err is human, to forgive divine.

See! How beautiful....

The healthcare propaganda was biased. Only half the picture was revealed.

Appetizer before the Entree

I'm quite pleased with my new blogskin. It's just simple, purely reflecting what I'm feeling now. Since working I don't ask much, all I want is just simple pleasures in life, such as a weekend off, a date with my boyfriend, a meet up with an old friend. Such things don't come easy after you step into the working world.
Yesterday was the only Saturday that I'll be off for the next few months, except for maybe National Day which happily falls on a Saturday. I wonder we'll get a day-off on the following Monday.

Something about the healthcare system, every day there will be business. Our manager asked us this question, " Do you know what are we fighting against?"
I was thinking, are we fighting against the doctors? ....
His answer was...." We are fighting against DISEASES!"
As long as there are diseases, we can never run out of job.
We almost fell off the chair that very moment.
Our manager is a very interesting man, but that's another story I shall blog about another day.

This very afternoon I just witnessed a ceremony right below our flat. It's like the Chinese version of Deepavali where there will be kawadis, people poking themselves through the mouth or skin with long spears and dancing away. Just that it's all chinese, none Indians. They were so loud that many people actually stepped out of their houses and peered downstairs, which includes me. Champ got up because of it as well, and he was shaking his head saying.."tsk tsk... spiritual warfare man..."
Apparently, he said it seems like it's the 7th month thing, where the gate of hell is opened. There was a whole gang of people, right behind this small parade of "kawadis".
I actually find the whole thing rather interesting, but yet to know that it's all false belief just makes me feel how ignorant these people are.

I miss 404. It has no car park, it's far away from the main road, it's filled with elderlies. But it doesn't really matter, because of all these, it's a very peaceful and quiet neighbourhood. Now that it's gone, I miss the atmosphere. And I guess the noisiest thing around there is 02-160!
